National Woodie Club
A Word from our President

The National Woodie Club exists to promote interest in woodies; to educate owners and the public on their history, beauty, usefulness and uniqueness; and to provide an association through which woodie owners and enthusiasts may exchange information on history, building, restoration or modification techniques and share experiences. The woodie is a special kind of car, which deserves special recognition. The National Woodie Club will work toward that goal.

Welcome to the National Woodie Club website. We hope your visit to the site is informative and enjoyable. To that end, our Website Committee is currently reviewing ways to provide a more dynamic, user friendly, Bulletin Board feature to meet the needs of our members, our guests, and Club business parameters.

One of the NWC’s most popular events is “Drive Your Woodie Day”. The concept for this event, proposed by Western Director Bill Sampson, was to have a club sponsored event that all members could participate in. The date for this event is May 19, 2012 Use this as an opportunity to get your woodie out for a drive to the local ice cream store, a car show, or a ride in the country. If your car is not ready for the road, maybe you can sand or varnish the wood, tinker with the engine, or, as others have done, just have your picture taken in your partially-assembled woodie. Be sure to send your pictures with a brief description to John Lee, editor of the award-winning Woodie Times.

The NWC sponsors an annual scholarship essay contest for children and grandchildren of Club members who are high school seniors headed to college or a technical school. Awards are: $1500 for first place, $750 for second place, and $500 for third place. Funds are intended to help offset the cost of books and supplies. The scholarship program was initiated by, and currently chaired by, past president and Will O’Neil Award Winner Craig Johnson. Look for contest specifics in the June issue of the Woodie Times.

There are now 18 Chapters of the National Woodie Club spread out all over the country. We also now have a marque chapter, The Town and Country Chapter, specific to Chryslers. Check out the Woodie Chapters section of the website to see if there is a Chapter near you. It’s a great way to meet and network with fellow woodie enthusiasts.

Next year’s Board of Director’s meeting will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2012, the day following Wavecrest in Encinitas, CA. You are welcome to attend and participate in the meeting.
